Description:
Groundwater Prospecting – Developing Groundwater Supply to Supplement Public Water Supply

County Government, Virginia Piedmont 2007 - 2008

Analytical Services, Inc. (ASI) personnel are providing assistance to a County Government in central Virginia to locate target drilling locations for potential high-yield wells that may be suitable for public supply. The project has included the assessment of several properties of which some are county owned sites.

Our workscope included conducting preliminary assessments on each property to determine if the site appeared to possess favorable potential for groundwater development. The preliminary assessment included a review of available geologic mapping, fracture trace analysis and site reconnaissance to field verify mapped fracture traces. Recommendation for geophysical surveys was made for those sites that were deemed favorable. Data obtained from the preliminary assessment and findings from the geophysical surveys were used to select drilling target locations. Permits for these drilling locations were obtained from the Virginia Office of Water Programs.

ASI personnel provided oversight during the well drilling activity and our field geologists logged the wells taking care to identify discrete water bearing zones. Following completion, wells that are deemed to have satisfactory yields for pump testing are subjected to 48 hour aquifer testing. Data from the pump tests are then analyzed and documented within an Aquifer Pump Testing Report for submittal to the State.
