Description: Aquifer Testing and Assessment Performed on an Active Community Well System to Satisfy Planned Expansion
Albemarle County, Virginia 2006
Analytical Services, Inc. (ASI) completed an innovative 72-hour simultaneous pump test of two “existing” groundwater supply wells that were actively connected to a public community water supply system. The testing was required to evaluate the yield and suitability of the existing groundwater supply wells for a planned expansion of a prestigious Golf Club Community (100 new residences). An aquifer testing workplan was developed with County Staff and the State Office of Water Programs to conduct the required testing while maintaining water supply service to the community residents.
The aquifer testing event included simultaneous pump testing of two wells and monitoring of seven additional observation wells that were situated at both onsite and offsite locations. The findings of the aquifer testing were used to evaluate adequate groundwater yield and suitability of the site for the planned use. The project also included an evaluation of potential contaminant sources and environmental receptors.
A detailed Hydrogeologic Assessment Report was prepared and submitted on the client's behalf to both the County Groundwater Manager and the State Office of Water Programs. Upon review of the report the project was granted approval.
